Alberto Garcia (Head Coach) ✉️
Al Garcia starred at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, where he won three CHSAA titles on the track, 1600m in 4:12 and VCP 2.5 mile course 12:37 respectively. He continued his career at St. John’s University, 4:06 for the mile, while being a member of the NYS school-record 4×1,500-meter relay. In 1987 Big East Champs, he scored in the 3kSC, 5K and 4×800 to help SJU win Big East. After college, Garcia became the Puerto Rico national outdoor champion over the 1,500-meter distance. He was the winner of the 1988 Mercedes Metropolitan Mile. Garcia coached LIU 1988-1994, OLGC youth 2000-2008, asst coach NDA 2008-2014, Head coach NDA 2014-present. Joe Stasi embarks on his 25th year as head coach of the Wagner cross country and track & field programs. During Stasi’s illustrious tenure on Grymes Hill, he has guided the program to over 50 indoor and outdoor records while overseeing a two-time NCAA qualifier and eight NCAA regional qualifiers. Additionally, he has mentored a track academic All-American On the heels of Wagner’s first-ever Northeast Conference indoor track & field team title in 2020, the Seahawks and head coach Joe Stasi captured the NEC Men’s Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year Award. Bill Welsh (Legendary Coach)
The Staten Island Legend of Running and Coaching for more than 70 years. He was one of the nation’s top distance runners competing against greats of the 1950s and 60s like Browning Ross, Gordon McKenzie, Horace Ashenfelter, Ted Corbitt and others. In 1955 Welsh ran in the Boston Marathon and his fastest ever was 2:34.39 in 1962, Atlantic City. He trained Bill Jankunis, a high jumper who became Staten Island’s first Olympian since 1932, also Charlie Marsala the boroough’s first and only man to break the four-minute mile. Bill Allert (Co-Founder) ✉️
Running enthusiast since college. Partnered with Marty Liquori to open Athletic Attic running store in Bay Ridge, together they formed one of the most successful track and road racing clubs in the Tri State from late 1970s into the mid 80s. Bill joined CPTC as a 60 year old competing in masters 4x400m at Penn Relays and the Millrose Games. He worked for NYRR managing the elite starting line of NYC Marathon and Manhattan College HS Invitational. Bill was the driving force behind 5K course in Clove Lakes before joining SITRAC serving as president for 2 years and now serves as VP in charge of community relations. (Read more...)

Titan League Treasurer & Volunteer Coordinator for BSS Youth Cross Country Track for over a decade. In 2015 she spearheaded the St. Peter’s Track & Field Alumni bringing together over 200 Eagles from 1954 to the present while inducting their rich history of records into the Hall of Fame. Coaching Track and Field for 16 years. His first 8 years were at Sheepshead Bay HS where they won 4 city championships and 5 national titles. The past 8 years John has been coaching at Susan Wagner where they have won 6 city championships. In 2009 he was the NSAF National HS coach of the year. John is a USATF level 3 endurance coach and a USTFCCA master sprint coach. In addition to coaching John Padula has been the Vice President of USATF NY since 2013. (Read more...)
Youree (Spence) Garcia (Advisory Council)
Speaking of Redstorm track resumes at St. John’s, Youree Spence Garcia is the marquee BIG EAST women’s sprinter of her era. Youree won 11 total BIG EAST individual titles during her brilliant career in Queens, including three-consecutive 300-meter indoor titles and three-consecutive 400-meter outdoor titles. The 400-meter dash was not contested indoors at the BIG EAST Championship when Spence Garcia competed for St. John’s. She also won two-consecutive 55-meter dash titles at the conference championships and was named the 1985 BIG EAST Indoor Championship Outstanding Athlete. Spence Garcia’s personal-best time of 54.67 seconds in the outdoor 400-meter dash ranks ninth on the St. John’s all-time lists.
