Hello World!! It’s spring again and we’re slowing moving forward from this pandemic. Just look around and you’ll see the cherry trees blossoming and the parks packed with pavement pounders, all trying to get in tune with this youthful time of life. And it’s time for some “Training Tips for the Tenderfeet.”
If you really want your heart to be young and more, get to your favorite doctor for an examination, and talk over what amount of exercise you can safely undertake. Before you go, think about your goals. What are you primarily interested in? Do you want to be an athlete? Will jogging satisfy your needs or do you demand Olympic-like performances? This self visualization is very important because it plays a major role in the degree of exercise in which you will engage. Your doctor must know about your plans if they are going to counsel you correctly. Other factors such as weight, blood pressure, and how sedentary a life you have been living will influence their advice. Whatever the outcome of your physical, don’t be discouraged if you are advised not to take up running or to stay away from competitive exercise.
Leisure sports fill a void in the lives of millions of happy, healthy swimmers, bikers and hikers. And, none of them need race T-Shirts or medals to live life to the hilt.
But, if running – for fun, health, and even competition – is what you want, and your doctor OK’s your plans, no need to buy an outfit. On Monday, May 24th is when we begin the 40-Day Countdown to July 4th 5k Run and we will first talk about shoes. And, as far as attire goes, any old sweatsuit, shorts and t-shirt will do for a start.
